Photobucket

Date : 10 October 2009 - 11 October 2009
Location : Betong, Thailand

Itinerary:

With the guidance from Motormouth, the Ipoh Blogger, we decided to spend a relaxing weekend in overseas @ Betong Thailand, just 3hrs drive from Ipoh. It was our first time driving into Thailand district.

To get into Betong, get ready the International passport or border pass together with the original car grant. The border pass can be issue on the spot but must be for the people born in Kedah / Kelantan / Perak.

The Betong Immigration Check Point.

Need to drive around 20mins further from the immigration check point to get into the Betong town. Reached Betong town in the afternoon.

This was the first attraction I saw.

Stomach start making sound, time for us to look for food. First thing in our mind sure the famous Thailand tom yum. We ordered 1 bowl of tom yum, 1 plate of kangkung and 1 dish of tauhu. Cost: RM35. Yup, they are accepting Malaysia currency.

The main public transportation.

After the lunch, we drove around the town centre of Betong. The town is not big and 30 minutes drive around is sufficient for you to familiarize the town roads. The famous clock tower of Betong town served as a good compas for us for direction.

Not far from the clock tower, you will reach to Betong Mongkollit tunnel which connecting to the south area of Betong. Two giant roosters can be view after the Betong Mongkollit tunnel.

The Municipal Park, located above the tunnel we passed through earlier.

Time for us to find for hotel for overnight stay. While searching for the hotel, we spotted this small stall selling insect as snack, just beside a disco pub.

We spent RM2 for a grasshopper snack. Just ate one leg and it make my throat itching. Maybe my physiology problem.

Finally, we picked Garden View Betong Hotel which we found it is the newest and cleanest after Mandarin Betong Hotel which is more expensive. It was just RM75 per night for a twin bedroom.

After check-in, we continue our explorer in Betong with the Kuan Yin temple.

Then headed to the Thailand largest mailbox standing at 9m tall which situated at the the City Convention Hall, on Sukkayang Road.

Round and round again in the town centre and this time we saw a young elephant walking by the road side. What else...we parked our car and followed the elephant closer lor. Just paid RM1 for the sugarcane to feed the elephant and free for photograph session.

Night time come and we need to decide a place for dinner. We had choose a more quiet and romantic restaurant which facing the exit of Betong Mongkollit tunnel, Vision View Steak House.

Beef steak for hubby and chicken chop for me.

Again, Tom Yum Kung for all.
